Our local supermarket is like a large superstore that you might find anywhere. It reminds me of the Carrefour we used to shop in in Doha. However this is China and there are something’s that I can find in the supermarkets here in China that I wouldn't necessarily find in other countries. Today my eldest and myself went out looking for cheese, we came home without the cheese but here are some photos to share our experience.
Welcome to Auchan supermarket.
You can buy all sorts here, including a new bike. I like these ones.
There are plenty of noodles to choose from.
The deli counter differs a little from home; this is where you would come to by chickens feet if you fancied them.
This is where you can get your dried meat.
You can buy riced already packaged but most people prefer to bag their own and have it priced by weight.
As you would expect there is a great range of dumplings.
You can pick up little packets of biscuits and then have them weighed and priced.
In the seafood section you can pick and examine the crabs you fancy for tea.
You also can choose your live fish. There is a lovely lady there who will hack it up for you. I got hit by a flying piece as we were walking by.
The net stops the frogs from jumping out of the bucket. Today there was not great selection of frogs, perhaps we would need to come a little earlier.
This bit is kind of like a salad selection except it is not salad. I am not really sure what you would call this.
One of the best bits of the supermarket is this bit. You choose what rice you like; I went with one with egg.
Then...
You give it to the lady to fry up, she adds vegi of your choice and spices and makes it yummy.
Going around a Chinese supermarket at times frustrating. It can be difficult to find what you need. It took us two week to find salt when we first arrived. But with a positive attitude and time on your side it can be a rewarding experince.
