Since we announced this pregnancy the first question most people ask is: Will I have the baby here in China or go home? For me, this was never even a consideration for many reasons. 1. I have private care here and comparing the standards between my local hospital which is now in Cavan over 50 miles away and here there really is no contest. 2. My family live here, I was not willing to give up my job and move my wee men halfway across the world just so I could have a baby at home. And 3. I can't wait for all the heartache and headaches having a Chinese birth certificate is bound to bring us in the future.
So the first consideration is prenatal care.
Well in China for us expats certainly, prenatal care is normally carried out where ever you decide to give birth. There was a couple of options for hospitals and I decided to go with the one that I was most familiar with and I knew had a good level of English speaking staff.
So off you go and make an appointment at the Obstatriation department and have your pregnancy confirmed. As soon as it is confirmed you are swiftly introduced to someone from marketing... Yes, you read that correctly, Marketing. This is where they sell you their different packages.
On offer is the Vaginal Delivery package. This package is retailing at 56000 which is approx 6300 GBP.
Next you can have a look at the Cesarean Section package. Priced at a reasonable 101,000 RMB around 11500 GBP. It is really worth asking about specials and discounts as there is always some sort of deal going on.
I purchased the Vaginal delivery package which includes most of you prenatatl care and those bits not covered I got a 20% discount for because I had the package.
I recieved an excellent level of care throughout my pregnancy and would not hessitate to recommend United Family Hospital Tianjin.
